Abu Dhabi - Children in Abu Dhabi will have more playgrounds soon thanks a new project announced by the municipality of Abu Dhabi city.
The first phase of the project to construct 120 playgrounds for children aged 3-4 will begin this month, the municipality said in a statement issued a week ago.
The first phase involves the construction of 32 playgrounds on Abu Dhabi Island, which is scheduled for completion within four months at an estimated cost of Dh21 million (approximately 5.7 million U.S.). The second phase will start later this year, with more focus on the mainland.
Selection Of Locations
All locations have been selected in accordance with the distribution of population and children density, the municipality's statement added.
The playgrounds will be within 350-400 metres of residential areas to ensure children have access to them.
Engineer Abdullah Al Shamsi, acting executive director of the Municipal Infrastructure and Assets Sector, said: "The project reflects the interaction between the municipality and the community."
Al Shamsi said there will be special arrangements to accommodate children with special needs in the construction of the playgrounds.
